So it's been a while since my last post. The Accidental Gallery show in June was a huge success. Thank you again to Joyce for allowing me to show there. SNAC will be showing there in September. A show flyer and info will be posted shortly.
Lately, I've been working a new series. The work is inspired by the hip hop artist Aesop Rock. What I find myself most drawn to about his work, are the abstract nature of his lyrics along with his very drum heavy beats. Often times, his work can seem like just loads of gibberish thrown together that happens to rhyme. I find it to be some profound work. I like that sometimes you really have to ponder what the significance is behind his metaphors.
For the next series, I will be exploring similar things. Using his songs as the backdrop, I will explore various subject matter ranging from the struggle of working a 9-5 job just to get by, and to be able to afford to do what really motivates and empassions you, to the flat out goofy. Can you say 'Breakdance Beach'? haha
This series, at times, will be more representational than some of my previous work. However, I will still be working heavily in abstraction with the majority of the pieces. I also plan on introducing lots of new media, including encaustics.
I'm excited! Two or three new pieces will be at the Accidental Gallery show in September. Stay posted for details
